It appears that spammers have figured out that many people use a password that matches their username on forums- i.e. the username "Bob" and the password is also "bob".
These same spammers have been implementing scripts (programs) to figure out which usernames and passwords match, so they can commandeer an online identity on a forum to spread their junk.
So please- if your username and password here are the same- change your password to something else! You can do this by clicking on the "Profile" button near the top left of the page. |

I think the best bet is to use a gibberish password. This is a combo of letters (in both upper and lower case), numbers and symbols. Not sure if there's a limit to password lenght, minium use 6 characters....8 is better and 12 is best to keep most script kiddies at bay. |

Using a simple password tool like keepass will help you a lot, especially if you are accessing lots of sites on the net. Its small, portable (easily fits on a usb key) and along with something like dropbox, will allow you to access your passwords anywhere.
cheers
