I'm not sure about the .22 round shot, but sometimes the lead .177 "BB's" shoot more accurately than steel in a smoothbore, single shot gun. On the other hand, there can be feed problems in a repeater.
Especially in guns with a magnetic bolt (eg., Crosman 760). I know. |

There is an argument that round lead balls fit the barrel tighter and therefore use more of the power, hit harder etc. Some actually have a warning not to use them in springers. http://www.pyramydair.com/cgi-bin/pellet.pl?pellet_id=465 I have a walther Falcon in .25 and had intended to try them, but decided not to, as the ammo warns against it. |

Maybe they don't have enough bearing surface to create
enough drag to help dampen the piston and begin movement
sooner and at a lower starting pressure than pellets of
the same weight which have more bearing surface. |

I love using H&N Copper Coated Round Ball's(RundKugeln's), especially in my QB-78-D .22, they're fantastic, very accurate, hard-hitting, and my choice for shooting on a windy, or breezy day. They fly very straight and true, Did I mention that they'll out-penetrate any Lead Pellet on the market today,,I prefer using the copper-coated one's, as opposed to the graphitized since I prefer using my own "lube".Grab Yourself some, and I bet it won't be the last time you order some,LOL, Cheer's, Andy.

I get mine on-line from "Nikkonos", He's got the best price's for these, and all H&N ammo,. |

The Haenel bolt action styled trainers and gallery guns are made to shoot roundball ammo. Having rifled barrels, the shot must be lead since copper coated steel bb's will quickly ruin the guns. I just picked up an old Diana smoothbore of the GEM style (early 20th century) and it's smoothbore, so I can shoot roundballs in it and will give some a try when I can find a tin. Also, some bb repeaters seem to do better with the lead bb's. |

This should explain everything you want to know regarding the use of Lead Ball ammo in your A/G,,and "RedFeather", I don't know what brand of Ball ammo you're using, but the H&N Rund-Kugeln's are Lead whether they're Copper coated, or Graphitized. "2250", If you plan on using these in .177, then Gamo's Precision Round's are a great choice, the Q/C is also much better than the regular Gamo Round's. Cheer's, Andy.
