I find that I'm not comfortable with a high magnification power. Sometimes its just too difficult to steady the scope.

Often I'll shoot at X3 mag level then zoom in to see where I hit the target.

Using the mirror is intended to recenter the crosshairs within the scope so you can start sighting from scratch again.

I would think with a boresighter tool you could verify/correct your scope misalignment. Can you borrow one from somebody?

Myself I would have gotten a Crosman 1377 with a shoulder stock. Or better yet a CO2 powered model like the Crosman 3576. Both are accurate pellet airguns and at short ranges deadly on small critters ...
